Bespoke Oak Stairs – Hitchin, Hertfordshire
David Smith St Ives, a long-standing member of the British Woodworking Federation (BWF), has designed, manufactured and fitted bespoke oak stairs for a customer in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

Discussions on the staircase first began when the client visited our stand at the London ExCeL Homebuilding and Renovating Show. The customer was looking to replace his existing timber staircase with an Oak staircase to modernise his home. He was looking for a company that could not only supply the new stairs but also remove and dispose of the old stairs and install the new ones. David Smith St Ives were more than capable to do all of this.
Design
The customer wasn’t sure how much scope there was to make a significant change from the original design but asked if a ‘fan’-type turn up the stairs would be possible. One of David Smith St Ives experienced Staircase Designers attended the site in-person to discuss and measure and ultimately designed a solution to achieve the client’s vision. Our designer worked closely with the client to ensure the stairs were exactly as he wanted and would fit flush to his new flooring as well.
